Brass swivels are manufactured to exacting specifications to provide smooth rotation and prevent line twisting and kinking. Eyes are precisely formed to prevent pull-out under severe tension. Offered in Black finish.
Why do we prefer and always suggest crane swivels over barrel swivels? Barrel swivels eyes are formed by twisting a single wire around itself to create the eye itself. The end of this wire is often sharp and can cut your line. The use of a single wire in barrel swivels is much weaker than the doubled wire design used in crane swivels.This creates a series of disadvantages for a barrel swivel.
#1) The single wire eye design of a barrel swivel is much weaker than the trapped, double wire design used to make crane swivels.
#2) The twisting of the wire to create the eye can often lead a sharp edge on the end of the wire.
#3) This same end of the eye twist can get caught on you leader or main line and vid the purpose of the swivel and all the line/rig to get twisted up. When this happens, the result can be missed fish or break offs if you do manage to hook a fish. See the two example photos below.
