Why twisted over braided ropes?
Braided rope offers no stretch and cost considerably more than twisted 3 strand anchor rope. You want a rope that will act a somewhat of a shock absorber between your boat and anchor and who doesn't like saving a few bucks.
Why do you want stretch in an anchor rope?
A boat is constantly moving and therefore if you have no stretch in your anchor rope you are directly transferring every boat movement to your anchor. This can lead to unnecessary difficulty in holding on anchor when the boat moves up and down and the braided anchor rope has no stretch. Think of it this way, for those that have fished with braided fishing lines. You feel much more with braid because of the last of line stretch. You do not want every boat movement transferring down to your anchor. You want a little stretch in your anchor rope to act as a "shock absorber" between your boat and your anchor.
